Day 2 at the Northern Ontario Men’s play downs saw more great curling at the Nipigon Arena. In the afternoon draw, the Rob Gordon team from Hailebury jumped to a 2-0 record with a 10-7 win over the Kirk Van Os rink. A 4 and 3 ender proved to be the difference in this game.A real battle took placeon sheet B as the Joe Scharf rink jumped to a quick 2 to nothing lead after scoring a 2 ,and 1 in the first 2 ends only to see Brian Burgess come back with 3 , and then steal 3 of his own.At the end of 10 all was tied , and Burgess made a nice double in the extra to take the win in his opening game.
The battle of the Soo saw the Al Harnden rink get his first win with a 6-3 win over Dan Lemieux, and after being down 7-3 at the half the John Salo rink fought back to tie his game 8-8 in the 8th, but a great 9th by Al Belec to score 2 gave him the chance to run Salo out of rocks in the 10th for the win.
The evening draw saw Rob Gordon goto a 3-0 record and sit alone atop the standings ,with an 8-4 win over Brian Burgess. The Johnny Salo and Joe Scharf rink sit at 2-1 with wins in their games , and the Dan Lemieux gets his first win with a 10-6 win over Al Belec.
TIDBITS
-John Cameron was the afternoon 50/50 draw winner of $170
-Al Harnden took advantage of hisevening bye by taking part and winning the evening 50/50 draw of $290. He also took in some Hold Em and did OK there too.
-The Brian Burgess team ran into some bad luck in the evening draw losing 3rd Clayton Shaw in the 6th end due to back problems.Hope to see Clayton back in action today.
-Appearantly someone else from the Burgess team had some trouble in the afternoon draw. A "Wardrobe Malfunction" thank God we didn’t have to witness the" Janet Jackson "
-Mike and Mike from the Scharf team said "the ice was in great shape today", after some minor flaws in the opening draw Loyd and his crew worked hard to get the ice back in shape. Mike Assad said " its great arena ice , exactly what you want to be curling on".
